Ika-125 Kaarawan ni Jose Corazon de Jesus (Nobyembre 22, 1894 – Mayo 26, 1932)


Sa darating na Nobyembre 22, 2021 ay ating ipagdiriwang ang ika-127 kaarawan ni Jose Corazon de Jesus na mas kilala bilang Huseng Batute. Ang araw na ito ay pagbabalik-tanaw sa kauna-unahang Hari ng Balagtasan at kung paanong mahusay na nakapagpabago sa Pilipinas ang kaniyang mga obra. Ating tunghayan ang selebrasyon ng buhay at mga akda ni Huseng Batute sa Performatura: Pandemic Edition na pinamunuan ng Intertextual Division ng Sentrong Pangkultura ng Pilipinas. Ito ay nasa direksiyon ng makata at performance poet na si Ginoong Vim Nadera.

Vim Nadera is the Festival Director of the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Performatura: Performance Literature Festival. A University of the Philippines Diliman professor, he has pioneered the teaching Performance Poetry at the Department of English and Comparative Literature.

Si Jaime de Jesus Aguila ay ang pinakabatang apo ni Jose Corazon de Jesus o mas kilala bilang Huseng Batute. Siya ang pinakabunsong anak ni Theresa de Jesus Aguila, isa sa tatlong mga anak ni Huseng Batute. Siya ay nagtapos ng kursong Civil Engineering sa Unibersidad ng Pilipinas – Diliman. Si Jaime de Jesus Aguila ay nakapagsulat ng librong may temang relihiyon na may pamagat na “Mystery of God” at may YouTube Channel na “One God Ministries” na maaaring mapanuod ng publiko.


Ramón Pagayon Santos (b. 1941) initially trained in Composition and Conducting at the University of the Philippines, and earned his Master of Music (with distinction) and Ph.D. degrees at Indiana University and State University of New York at Buffalo, respectively. He was a full fellow at the Summer Courses in New Music at Darmstadt, Germany, and undertook post-graduate work in Ethnomusicology at the University of Illinois under grants from the Ford Foundation and the Asian Cultural Council.  He has been elected as Member of Honor of the Asian Composers League which he led as Chairman in 1994-1997, as well as elected Vice President of the International Music Council at UNESCO from 2001 to 2005 serving as the first Filipino in the 5-man Praesidium of the highest governing body of the international music community.


Nolito Cabaylo Gregorio is a composer, performer, stage director, and choreographer. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Voice from the University of San Agustin, Iloilo City. He is the assistant conductor of the university choir and founding member of the USA troubadours. He was the grand champion of Kundiman Fiesta in 1993 which was sponsored by Hotel Nikko Manila Garden. He is also a member of the Kasarinlan Philippine Music Ensemble under the tutorage of Professor Felipe Mendoza De Leon Jr. which had successful concerts in Europe and the US.

Nolito is the youngest member of the famous Mabuhay Singers. Musical director of The Singing Cooks And Waiters Ihaw-Ihaw Kalde-Kaldero Kawa-Kawali At Aawitan Kayo Restaurant up to the present. He championed the 2020 QuaranTinig, a worldwide search for outstanding OFW singers organized by NCCA. He is a seasoned performer with a wide variety of repertoires from classical, kundiman, pop, rock, jazz, ballad, broadway to novelty songs. He has played major parts in musicals such as Captain Hook in the British musical Peter Pan, Rodolfo in La Boheme, Don Luis in the operetta Anak ni Eva.

At present, Nolito is a music teacher in the “Kingdom of Unexpected Treasures” and the “Abode of Peace” — Brunei Darussalam.
